Moná Thomas, People; Bear Unknowingly Celebrates Winnie-the-Pooh’s 100th Anniversary by Wandering into a Library and Raiding Its Honey Stash

"A bear made Winnie-the-Pooh proud on the character’s landmark anniversary.

Early on Oct. 14, a black bear wandered into a California library and helped itself to some of the building’s snacks, honey included, on the day the original Winnie-the-Pooh book turned 100.

Security footage released by the Mono County Office of Education shows the furry visitor exploring the shelves of the Mammoth Lakes Library, located in Mammoth Lakes, Calif.

“We can only assume the new Li-BEAR-ian was looking for a copy of Winnie the Pooh, published 100 years ago today!” the office wrote, adding that “the morning visitor politely saw themselves out before staff arrived.”...

A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh was first published on Oct. 14, 1926, introducing readers to a honey-loving “Bear of Very Little Brain.” To mark the centennial, the library is inviting the community, “human members only,” to visit any of its seven branches for a copy of the classic or other bear-themed titles."
